PRIMO

Primo band was founded in 1998 in San Diego by cousins Ruben, Ernesto, and the late Art Valenzuela. They initially played Latin jazz at various downtown venues before securing their first residency at Croce's Jazz Bar, where they transitioned into San Diego's leading salsa band. Ruben took over leadership in 2006, during which time Primo recorded two CDs: "Para ti... Primo" and "Con amor... Primo." In 2008, Ruben passed the baton to Néstor Martínez, who has continued to carry the band’s legacy in San Diego bringing together some of the city's finest musicians alongside emerging talent.
